The Filter

Which story are you running?

Framework 5 of 14 from Fix Your Thinking, Fix Your Life.

Why this one

You heard criticism in this quiz before anybody said any. A text from the boss, a comment from someone close, and you were already replaying what you did wrong.

That's a filter: an old story turning neutral words into the hit you were braced for. It feels like perception, which is why it's hard to catch. The fix is a little awkward and it works. Ask what they meant.

You decided what they meant before they spoke. Catch it red-handed: "What I heard was ___. Is that what you said?"
